Textilease Medique Leadership Award

Textilease Medique Leadership Award

 

This award goes to an OSAOHN member that is nominated by another member. 

The award is an impressive plaque that reads "In Recognition for Dedicated and Exemplary Leadership Ability". 

Medique then donates $300.00 to OSAOHN in that person's name.

 

The following is the information that needs to be completed for each nominee:

Participating state associations will select one outstanding occupational health nurse member, who was exhibited leadership in participating in the association and professional activities.

A plaque will be presented to the nurse who has shown the highest qualities of leadership as determined by her or his peers.  Medique will provide an educational award of $300.00 to the state association’s continuing education fund in the name off the leader nurse.

 

The objectives of this award:

  • To recognize leadership of occupational health nurses at the state level.

  • To encourage development of leadership skills by members of your association.

  • To increase awareness of the role of the occupational health nurse to both employers and the community.

  • To assist through the aid of the Textilease Medique award, the educational efforts of the state association.

CENTER FOR RESEARCH ON OCCUPATIONAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL TOXICOLOGY (CROET) NURSING WORKSITE AWARD

Purpose

The purpose of the CROET Nursing Worksite Award is to increase the visibility of Oregon occupational health nurses concerning workplace innovations to improve health.   These are projects that have made or will make a difference in the workplace.

Any OHN can apply.  If you are working on a project the would affect the health and safety of workers you can apply for this award.  There is an application on-line for this award that defines the process.   CROET is our partner in workplace health and safety. 

Uses of the Award

The recipient could use the Award for any of the following activities:

  •  Planning, implementing, evaluating, or extending a program.

  •  Disseminating information about an innovative program.

  •  Improving worker health, promoting wellness, prevention health education.

  •  Traveling to present a paper about the innovation at a professional meeting.

  •  Paying for planning and/or resources for implementation.

  •  Using as start-up money for a new program.

  •  Expanding the scope of an existing program.

Expectations of the Applicant

The applicant must be an active or student member of the Oregon State Association of Occupational Health Nurses. The recipient occupational health nurse would share/present the results of the innovation that received the award.

Guidelines for the Application

Complete the attached application form.  Attach a budget for the use of the Award.  Enclose a letter of support from management of the company that employs the occupational health nurse.  Mail the application, budget and letter of support to the Chair of the Awards Task Force no later than June 30, 2010.  The Award will be made at the September Meeting of the Oregon State Association of Occupational Health Nurses.  For information contact Karin Drake, Awards Committee Chair by email: karin.n.drake@kp.org  or by phone at 503.571.3804.

Sponsorship of the Award

The Oregon Occupational Health Nursing Worksite Award is offered through the sponsorship of the Center for Occupational and Environmental Toxicology at the Oregon Health & Science University in Portland, Oregon.  The Award maximum is $1500.

THE ELLEN KINNEY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

PURPOSE

The Ellen Kinney Scholarship was created to remember Ellen Kinney and her lifetime of efforts to improve the practice of occupational health nursing.  This scholarship is intended to promote student and member’s involvement and participation with the Oregon State Association of Occupational Health Nurses (OSAOHN) and occupational health nursing.

 

The scholarship will provide funding for a student or member to participate in an OSAOHN function or membership, or promote a student or member’s involvement in occupational health nursing education or promotion.

Priority consideration will be given to education and participation.  Secondary, but acceptable, will be the opportunity to apply for a one-year membership if the potential member has no avenue for reimbursement.

Some examples include: attending an OSAOHN meeting, tuition for an occupational health related class, expenses related to presenting at an OSAOHN meeting or membership to OSAOHN.

One or recipients may be selected.  The total amount of the annual award is not to exceed $250.00.  The Member Recognition and Award Committee is responsible for selecting the recipients.

 

ELIGIBILITY

   To be considered eligible to receive the Ellen Kinney Scholarship, the applicant must:

  • Be a student involved in occupational health nursing, with proof of enrollment in an accredited school of nursing

  • Be a member of AAOHN and OSAOHN or if applying for a one-year membership, be working in occupational health nursing and interested in becoming a member of OSAOHN

  • Submit a letter of request to the Awards Committee by September 15th, 2010, deadline.  The letter of request shall include: Name, Job Title, Employer including a mailing address or school and mailing address, a statement of how the award will help you with participation in OSAOHN or how it will promote occupational health nursing education, and what that means to you. 

  • Winners will be asked to write a newsletter article to be placed in the OSAOHN newsletter describing how you will use the award and what it means to you, professionally; to be submitted 30 business days after receiving the award.
